There’s a lovely garden on Montjuïc that I adore. I call it the lily pad garden, but its official name is Jardins de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer — which is exactly why I just call it the lily pad garden. This beautiful little spot is hands down one of my favorite places in...

There is so much to see and do in Barcelona and beyond. Some days, just wandering the streets feels like stepping into an open-air museum, with the architecture, the colors, the life of the neighborhoods all around you. Yes, you have the famous spots — the Sagrada Familia, the Picasso Museum — but some of my favorite experiences are in the smaller corners of the city. Quiet gardens, hidden courtyards, rooftop views, neighborhood markets.
And when you feel like getting out of town, there is even more to explore. You can take the train to Sitges for a beach day, go hiking or biking in Collserola, visit Montserrat, or wander through Montjuïc’s gardens and museums. The Mediterranean lifestyle really invites you to be outside and soak it all in.
Here I share the places and experiences I love most — from cultural spots to outdoor adventures — the things we actually do, as locals, to enjoy this incredible place.

Barkelona: The City’s Best Dog Parks
Dogs are generally welcomed in Barcelona and are well tolerated in most public spaces. They are just as much a part of café life here as cañas and bravas. The city has required leash laws and taking your canine friend on public transportation requires a carrier or...
Run Barcelona: A Poblenou Route with Architecture and Sea
Run Barcelona I began running in Barcelona four years ago. Coming from Costa Rica, I was used to running alone in the wilderness on narrow, mountain trails. In Barcelona, my initial attempts of lacing up my sneakers and just heading out to run in the city failed...
Flirty Barcelona: Sexy places for cold nights
Winter in Barcelona may have bright, sunny days with just a hint of chill, but in the evenings, the temperatures drop enough to want to heat things up with a cocktail and a lover. The challenge is sorting through the myriad bars and restaurants in town to find one...
Gym and Tonic: 7 Workout and Brunch Pairings
You did good. You woke up this morning, put on your sneakers and actually made it out for a workout. Or maybe that well-meaning frenemy of yours finally convinced you to stop being such a lump and get out there for some cardio. Or maybe you want a group class to meet...
