Personal Picks: Stylish Hotels in Barcelona

by Andrea Fellman | Aug 28, 2025 | Stay

Stylish Hotels in Barcelona

I’ve had so many people come to Barcelona over the years and ask me where they should stay. My first question is always: who are you coming with? Because the hotel I’d recommend for a couple is not the same one I’d send a family of four, or a friend traveling solo.

What I then try to do is share a few stylish hotels in Barcelona that actually fit their trip. This is a short list of places with character, personality, and a little something extra that makes a stay feel special. I’ve traveled with two kids for years, and even then I still wanted a stylish hotel that didn’t feel generic — somewhere with design, charm, or just a unique vibe.

Some of these hotels are more affordable, others lean toward luxury, but in my opinion, they’re all strong picks for what you get in terms of location, amenities, and atmosphere. Prices always depend on the season, so keep that in mind when planning.

Hoxton Hotel Poblenou Barcleona

The Hoxton – (Anyone and Everyone)

The Hoxton is modern, fresh, and fun, but the real highlight is the rooftop. It’s divided into three sections, with an up-close view of the Glòries Tower (those mosaic tiles are pretty amazing when you see them in detail), and you also have a distant view of the Sagrada Família.

The pool area is reserved for guests, but you can still wander through to get the full view. The Mexican restaurant and bar, Tope, is open to everyone, and on weekends, there’s often a DJ. It’s the kind of place where you can swim, sip cocktails, eat tacos, and watch the sun go down.

What I also love is that the Hoxton isn’t in the middle of all the tourist chaos. It’s next to the new Glòries park, a quick tram ride into the center, and within walking distance of both the beach and Sagrada Família. Spacious, airy, and calmer than the middle of the city. Honestly, it’s my personal favorite right now. And if I were traveling with kids, I’d book it in a heartbeat.

Hotel Praktik Èssens

Hotel Praktik Èssens (Couples, Solo Travel)

I once recommended Hotel Praktik Èssens to a friend visiting from Los Angeles with her husband, and they absolutely loved it. The hotel is themed around the world of fragrance, and each floor has its own scent.

It’s tucked down a small alley right next to El Nacional, the dining hall with multiple restaurants and bars under one roof. The location is unbeatable — right off Passeig de Gràcia, in the heart of Barcelona, and just a short walk to Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and Plaza Catalunya. The terrace is a beautiful spot for a drink after a day of exploring.

Side note: The Praktik hotels are a small group of very reasonably priced stylish hotels in Barcelona. Each has its own theme. Praktik Bakery is attached to one of the city’s best bakeries (imagine waking up to that smell). Praktik Vinoteca is all about wine. And Praktik Garden feels more like a plant shop and library than a hotel lobby.

Mercat de Santa Caterina
Edition Hotel Barcelona Pool

Edition Hotel – (Couples or Friends)

The Edition is one of the most stylish hotels in Barcelona. Their rooftop, The Roof, has one of my favorite views: mountains, sea, and the colorful tiled top of Mercat de Santa Caterina.

Downstairs, you’ve got a cabaret-style nightclub and The Punch Room, which is dark, moody, and very fun for a night out. I once had their famous punch bowl here for a friend’s going-away party, and it was not only delicious but also gorgeous. The whole experience felt like stepping into a little private club.

The rooms are sleek and modern, and the location couldn’t be better: you’re right by El Born, the Gothic Quarter, and steps from Santa Caterina Market. Whether you’re here as a couple or with friends, this hotel is all about atmosphere and indulgence.

Petit Palace Boqueria Garden (Family)

This hotel sits right in the middle of the Gothic Quarter. Normally, that would mean chaos with kids, but here you get something rare — a peaceful garden tucked away in the back. It’s a big outdoor space where little ones can take a breather, and even locals are surprised by it. The old city is endlessly interesting for kids, and you don’t have to walk far to see a lot.

The hotel also makes exploring easier. They offer free bikes, rooms are family-friendly, pets are welcome, and there’s even free MiFi (a portable Wi-Fi device) so you can stay connected around the city. Add in a healthy breakfast buffet and flexible checkout on some days, and it’s easy to see why I send families here again and again.

Icon Hotel Barcelona

ICON – (Family or Groups)

ICON is one of those hotels where both kids and grown-ups end up loving it. The lobby, dining area, and back terrace are all huge for a city-center hotel. It gives everyone room to breathe with a small pool that’s perfect for a break between sightseeing. I’ve actually been to a few local events here, and I’m always impressed by how generous all the hotel areas are. It’s not what you expect in the middle of Barcelona, and that’s what makes it stand out. For families, the highlight is definitely the bunk beds. It’s also a good option if you need to work while traveling — the lobby has that open, lounge-y feel where you can set up a laptop without it feeling like you’re trapped in a conference room. On top of that, it has pet-friendly rooms (with little extras like a bed and bowl), and the location couldn’t be better: literally right in the center of the city.

Cotton House Hotel Barcelona

Cotton House Hotel – (Solo Travel, Couples)

Cotton House is one of my go-to recommendations for sheer style and history. Once the headquarters of Barcelona’s cotton guild, the building still carries all that grandeur. The staircase is iconic, the library is beautiful, and the back terrace is perfect for a glass of cava.

When friends come to town, I often take them here just to see the hotel — even if they’re not staying. It’s that impressive. I’ve only seen the VIP suite (long story, ha), so I can’t speak for the standard rooms, though I’ve heard they run on the smaller side. But honestly, people come here for the atmosphere. It’s one of those stylish hotels in Barcelona where the history and design do all the talking.

Casa Mimosa Terrace The Barcelona Edit

H10 Casa Mimosa – (Anyone & Everyone)

Casa Mimosa is one I recommend simply because it’s a genuinely lovely hotel. The rooftop is a highlight, with a unique perspective of the backside of La Pedrera (Casa Milà) that you don’t usually see. It feels like a little secret view of Gaudí. The location is great too — in the Eixample but toward the upper part, so you’re just a short walk to Passeig de Gràcia and it’s easy to head north into Gràcia. That’s where you’ll find a more local, authentic Barcelona vibe, without the tourist crush of the Gothic Quarter or El Born. Downstairs, Casa Mimosa has a beautiful courtyard garden filled with plants. It’s a nice spot to take a breather from the city without having to leave it.

Casa Bonay Barcleona

Casa Bonay – (Solo travel, Couples, Friends)

Casa Bonay was created by Inés Miró-Sans, a Barcelona native who previously worked at Ace Hotel in New York. You can feel that mix of local and international influence everywhere in the design — stylish without being pretentious, creative but still very Barcelona. The lobby bar, Libertine, is usually a mix of locals and guests, and there’s a great little coffee shop as well as a small rooftop terrace, it’s not huge or flashy, but it has that laid-back Barcelona charm. The restaurant, Bodega Bonay, serves excellent food and makes the whole place feel more like a neighborhood hangout than just a hotel. Casa Bonay really nails that balance of stylish design and genuine atmosphere, which is why it’s one of my go-to recommendations for couples or groups of friends.

Seventy Hotel Barcleona Hotel Lobby

Seventy Barcelona – (Solo Travel, Couples, Friends)

I recommend Seventy when someone tells me they’ll be mixing work and leisure. The lobby is fantastic, it’s big, bright, lined with bookshelves, and has a bit of a cool coworking vibe. You can grab a coffee, a snack, and slide right into after-work drinks without ever leaving the space. There’s also a rooftop terrace with a pool and a hidden courtyard tucked inside that feels like a little oasis. If you need to switch off completely, the spa downstairs has a sauna, steam room, and even vegan treatments. Seventy is also one of the more eco-friendly hotels in town. It’s stylish and social, which is why I tend to send it to people who want a mix of getting things done and actually enjoying their stay.

Motel One Barcelona Hotels

Motel One Barcelona – (Families, Groups)

Okay, let’s address this upfront: the name “Motel One” might sound a little off-putting to North Americans, who immediately picture highway motels with worn carpets. But this is not that. Motel One is sleek, affordable, and surprisingly cool. The lobby is enormous and serves as a coworking, dining, and bar space. And the best part, it’s directly across from Parc de la Ciutadella and there is a great view from rooftop terrace. So if your kids are tired of you dragging them to all the Gaudí sights and need to run around like wild things, you can literally walk across the street and let them loose. This location also sits perfectly next to El Born and the Gothic Quarter.

There are endless stylish hotels in Barcelona, but these are the ones I come back to again and again when people ask me where to stay. Consider this a starter list. I’ll be working on a follow-up with more truly boutique hotels (small, chic, and a little hidden) as well as budget-friendly stays that still have plenty of Barcelona charm. Perfect if you’re traveling with a group, with teens, or just keeping an eye on costs.

Note: I have personally been inside each of these hotels. These are all of my own photos. Some I have not been in for a while, so amenities may vary slightly, and obviously, I am not responsible for any dissatisfaction. Have a nice stay 🙂
